weight loss update: Day 15

First, this will be the last time I give a ‘Day x’ nomer to all of this.  It’s just I’m a day over 2 weeks in, so I thought I’d note that.  I’ll be weighing Saturday mornings and updating at that time from now on  (here.)

I’m down 8.0 lbs.  Not too shabby!  I’m still 100% chocolate and dessert free.  Very low sugar.  I was able to eat 2 salads, one with romaine, one with baby spinach leaves as their base, and not suffer any UC (ulcerative colitis) effects, so that is a MAJOR great thing!  The goal is still 2 lbs. loss per week.  I’ve been plagued by equilibrium problems this week, (so bad that hubby had to drive me to/from work 2 days)…so exercising is off the table, but I’m still planning to start back up (slowly) within the next day or two, if the symptoms subside.  I get this a couple of times a year, no biggie.  Overall, already my jeans are feeling a little looser, tops fit better, and I’m feeling much better about myself.  No real temptations I couldn’t easily ignore, and so things are going as good on the weight loss front as I could hope for.  🙂

Glad you guys so resoundingly loved the puppy and bunny posts.  I think I’m going to pop them on my menu bar as a quick way to move away from any potential political angst or any other stress.  🙂  There will be more posts like that to come.  I’m already collecting pictures.  LOL

Weather-wise, it’s been amazing, although we know this portends another drought starting.  It’s been 75-80 for over a week now, and no end in sight.  Literally.  Here’s the forecast for my city for the next two weeks:

Have a great weekend!!

ETA:  since I’ve already been asked once, and I realize I shouldn’t expounded, here is what usually causes this equilibrium issues for me:  usually it’s from bending over too fast either to pat or pick up my chihuahua, although some times it’s from gardening. In the past, it’s also been from losing enough weight that I can slightly decrease my bp medication dosage. I don’t think 7-8 lbs. is quite enough, but if this doesn’t depart soon, I might start slivering one dose for a few days to see if that helps. 🙂

First week, in the bag

Well, I’ve completed my first week of the ‘eat healthier, lose weight’ journey of 2018.

I’m down 5.2 lbs!

I know, first week is always the most spectacular, usually do to fluid loss.  I’ll still take it.  🙂

Ideally, I’d like to lose 2-3 most weeks, but will happy as long as it’s 2 lbs. most weeks.  In the past, I’ve always been able to lose 2-3 lbs. per week, until near goal weight, but the last 2 times that was always in an almost grain free plan, which I can’t quite do anymore.  But I’m trying to keep my calories to about where they were grain free, so hopefully I can keep up that pace of weight loss or close to it.  Even though, yes, I’m a few years older.

Still need to get started on exercising again, but my right knee has been bothering me since I took down the Xmas tree.  It feels a little better, so I’m going to try at least 15-20 minutes or so and see how that goes.  Otherwise, just continue on the way I am.  It’s worked well.  I’ve had no chocolate or desserts in a full week, and that feels GREAT.

That’s it for me.

Except, I got us great tickets to see Hall & Oates with Train in early May.  I saw Hall & Oates about 16-17 years ago with my two daughters; it was awesome.  Hubby has never seen them, but we watched a tape of a concert of theirs in the past couple of years; they still have their voices (many artists don’t as they age.)  So we are very excited.  🙂

Have a great weekend!

Back to healthy eating for me

I need to lose weight.

I need to cut back on sweets and starches.

I’ve been hampered by the fact that starches are the most digestible thing for my body’s version of ulcerative colitis, but I have to push the envelope and get away from it.  The weight just isn’t healthy at my age or with my history of high blood pressure.

The buck stopped yesterday morning.  I ate perfectly yesterday, for the first time in probably over a year.

Here’s what I’m doing to change my diet.  I don’t use the term ‘dieting’ because that suggests short term.  This just can’t be short term anymore.  It has to be long term.  Perhaps as I get closer to my goal weight, I can loosen up once a week or so for a dessert, but not until then.

So, here’s the deal:

I eat lots of meat, first and foremost.  I am going to try and eat more veggies and fruits to a lesser degree.  Raw produce is hard for my UC, but I’m going to try and get at least a couple of salads in a week, and 1 serving of fruit per day, if I can tolerate it.  The rest of my veggies will be well steamed or baked.  1-2 servings of hard cheese a day.  (I can’t handle dairy other than hard cheese and a splash of organic half and half once a day in my decaf coffee.)  A small handful of nuts 1-2 times a day.  (4-6 nuts an afternoon will be one of my few allowed ‘snacks.’)  Back to the good habit of if I eat lunch out at work, I intermittent fast the rest of the day/have no dinner.  Plenty of water.

No chips.  No donuts or pastries.  No chocolate.  No desserts.  No more than 1 serving of starch, up to 4 servings per week.

That should do it.  And slowly starting to introduce exercise again; my favorite forms being dancing and level walking (meaning, if I do incline walking I have feet problems, but don’t seem to when I keep to level ground.)

Working my exercise up to at least 30 minutes a day, 4-5 days a week.  But right now still trying to regain my stamina from the jungle rot (still coughing, but not as bad as it has been.)

So that’s the game plan.  I’ve learned not to get much more specific than this on the blog, or it brings out the passionate devil’s advocates that love to put down other people’s plans if they don’t follow their own.  So no specifics on weight, no daily details on foods eaten, etc.  Just general summaries.

So if anyone wants to join me in trying to lose weight and/or eat better, let’s pump each other up!  We can do this!!!
